11Alive News in Atlanta chose the Columbus Memory Center as the focus of a larger story on preventing Alzheimer’s & Dementia. Dr. Jonathan Liss gave the general public tips on what needs to be done to ensure the healthiest brain aging possible.

Dr. Jonathan Liss gained recognition outside of the local area for CMC’s involvement in a groundbreaking clinical research trial that has spanned 10 years, screening hundreds of patients. Leqembi, made by Eisai and Biogen, was granted accelerated approval by the FDA in January.
“Leqembi will be the very first drug that shows a substantial change in the disease process and a proven slowing of the disease for people who are on the pathway towards Alzheimer’s disease and people with early Alzheimer’s disease,” Dr. Liss explained. “So it’s a big breakthrough for early sufferers disease.”

The Ledger-Enquirer highlighted CMC’s contributions in proving Eli Lilly’s drug, donanemab, successful. Columbus Memory Center has been a top research clinic for recent breakthrough Alzheimer’s drugs. Donenmab follows in the footsteps of the FDA-approved drug Leqembi in that it slows the progression of the disease itself, rather than simply treating symptoms.
Donanemab treatment slowed clinical decline by 35% compared to placebo, and resulted in 40% less decline on the ability to perform activities of daily living (investor.lilly.com)

Dr. Jonathan Liss gave a presentation to the crowd of 1,000 during the annual Alzheimer’s Association event, “Dancing Stars of Columbus”
The event raised $331,353.89 to help those in the Columbus, Ga area affected by Alzheimer’s Disease.
