Renée Fleming’s Music and Mind

Dr. Liss was invited as a panelist for Music and Mind, presented in more than fifty cities around the world, Soprano and arts & health advocate Renée Fleming invited leading local scientists, physicians, and practitioners to join her, offering illuminating discussions and sharing the latest findings about the growing field of arts and health. Fleming shared highlights from her new anthology, Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts for Health and Wellness, to be published by Viking Penguin on April 9, 2024.

Dancing Stars 2024

Columbus Memory Center was a top sponsor for the annual “Dancing Stars of Columbus” event. Dancing Stars of Columbus Georgia is the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual fundraising competition that culminates the night of the gala where our fundraisers, local Star Dancers, are coupled with professional dancers to further compete in a dancing challenge.

Group Memory Screening

Columbus Memory Center collaborated with Valley Healthcare System to administer our Memory Number® assessment and educate the group on Alzheimer’s disease and its and treatment options.

Mobile PET Scanner

The Columbus Memory Center introduced a mobile PET Scanner that will be onsite weekly. This allows both our neurology and research patients to receive their necessary PET scans more easily, no longer needing to commute outside of city limits.

Did you know? PET scans are a type of imaging test. It uses a radioactive substance called a tracer to look for disease in the body. A PET scan shows how organs and tissues are working. This is different than MRI and CT scans. These tests show the structure of, and blood flow to and from organs. (medlineplus.gov)

Georgia Power Ambassadors Group

The Georgia Power “Ambassadors” group, a network of retirees and their spouses who have committed to caring and sharing within their communities through active volunteerism and community support, chose The Columbus Memory Center as the focus of their monthly meeting.

Dr. Jonathan Liss informed the group on how to better prevent cognitive decline through lifestyle changes and tracking their memory annually with our “Memory Number®” assessment. This was also the group’s first chance to learn about breakthrough Alzheimer’s medication, LEQEMBI®

Local television personality Gloria Strode visited CMC to discuss current developments that affect memory loss.

Black Nurses Association

CMC hosted the Columbus, GA Metropolitan Black Nurses Association’s monthly meeting, serving dinner and offering an educational presentation on the future of Alzheimer’s treatment.

One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Because the disease is so common, it is imperative that all health care professionals are informed on and prepared to handle common symptoms of dementia.

“Evening of Elegance”

Columbus Memory Center served as a Platinum-level sponsor for Metropolitan Baptist Church’s “Evening of Elegance” ceremony at Columbus State University. The event celebrated the financial support given to four of the church’s rising college freshmen as they prepare for secondary education.

Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® (AAIC®)

Dr. Liss joined the world’s largest meeting dedicated to advancing dementia science—the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference® (AAIC®)

The Columbus Memory Center was represented alongside 7,000 dementia professionals during the event in Amsterdam, contributing to the group of 650 presentations on basic science, emerging research, innovative practice techniques, imaging, technology and more.

The Columbus Memory Center has been a world-leader in Alzheimer’s & Dementia research, enrolling the 3rd-most people internationally in a recent clinical research trial.

Metropolitan Baptist Church

Dr. Jonathan Liss spoke to Metropolitan Baptist Church regarding the following:

  • Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
  • The Columbus Memory Centers’ Resources
  • Lifestyle tips to halt the progression of the disease.
  • The importance of research involvement, especially in underserved communities.

The Columbus Memory Center has given $2,500 to over 10 minority churches that have shown the initiative to improve their church members’ brain health.

Roundtable Discussion

The Columbus Memory Center hosted a “Roundtable Discussion: Breakthroughs in Treatment” presentation alongside the Alzheimer’s Association. This event served as a public service announcement for the promising future of Alzheimer’s treatment following the FDA approval of the drug LEQEMBIⓇ. Dr. Liss and caregivers also took questions from the general public.

Columbus Memory Center visits New Salem Baptist Church to present free memory number tests

New Salem Missionary Baptist Church

The Columbus Memory Center visited New Salem Missionary Baptist Church to present a “Memory Shelf.” This initiative encourages church members to take the Memory Number® test and bring their own health & wellness books to share with the congregation.

This day marked CMC’s first effort to bring the free Memory Number® test outside of our office for future use.

Diversity Inclusion in Memory Care Day

Columbus Memory Center received a proclamation from city council declaring May 9th as “Diversity Inclusion in Memory Care Day.” CMC was honored with this proclamation due to our longstanding initiatives to reach underserved communities.

Black participants in Alzheimer’s disease research studies were 35% less likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and related dementias than white participants, despite national statistics that indicate that Black Americans are overall about twice as likely to develop dementias than whites. TRAILBLAZER-ALZ 2 Phase 3 Study

Dr. Jonathan Liss gave a statement regarding the positive results from Eli Lilly and Company’s TRAILBLAZER-ALZ 2 Phase 3 Study.

Participants on Donanemab experienced a 39% lower risk of progressing to the next stage of disease compared to placebo.

United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of West Georgia

The Columbus Memory Center hosted the United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of West Georgia for a “Lunch & Learn.” Dr. Liss’ presentation focused on how nurses can better handle patients with symptoms of dementia.
